In 1983, Emmanuel and Lily started printing souvenir T shirts in their garage and sold them under the name of Citadel to visiting tourists through retail outlets. It was an immediate success not only with the visitors but also the local residents. Soon there was a big demand for similar garments from Europe , namely France, where we started exporting. Export now represents over 80% of our total garment sales. It became evident that we had to have total control over our production chain if we were to guarantee both the quality and the delivery dates. On top of the automatic printing presses, we decided to invest in the best equipment to have full making up, embroidery, and finishing facilities. We eventually moved to the current Coromandel premises after buying the Bata Mauritius Company, which was in financial difficulties. The shoe production facilities were dismantled and a full garment production unit was installed in 2008. Since we also acquired all the ideally situated stores, we decided to accept the offer of Bata to become their exclusive franchisee in Mauritius. We have now 10 Bata stores on high streets and in the best shopping malls. With our experience in the retail business, we decided to develop our Citadel into a national brand, using Dood as the Mauritian Hero. Today Citadel is one of the one of the most recognizable Mauritian brands and is the market leader in the souvenir T- Shirts. Citadel has 8 stores on the Island. In 2013, we took the franchise of Reserve Naturelle, now rebranded as Adopt. Within 2 years we have increased the number of stores from 4 to 6 and double the sales. We have managed to improve substantially our performance partly to thanks to the analysis of our figures from posterita POS ( front and back office software. With our retail experience, we are confident about our retail operations that we want retail to become our forte and acquire more franchise We have recently started investing in the property development in Mauritius where we foresee substantial growths.
